Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was photoshopped for the cover of Marie Claire South Africa's August issue, an editor for the magazine admitted.

The magazine features Middleton on its latest issue with a bright smile wearing a red and brown outfit by South African designer Clive Rundle. The magazine's headline reads "Fashion's New Royal Icon Wears SA's Best Local Designs," and a disclaimer "*Of course she doesn't. But she should."

"The cover is actually a hyper-real illustration of Kate, meant to be a fan art tribute to fashion's new royal icon," editor Aspasia Karras told U.K.'s the Telegraph.

When the cover was unveiled it sparked media frenzy because Middleton is one of the most coveted faces in the fashion industry and competitor magazines thought Marie Claire had landed the gig.

Middleton has been the target of photoshop manipulation before.

The New Republic magazine recently photoshopped her photo to show her with rotten teeth to symbolize the state of U.K.'s economy.

An Australian magazine that published photographs of her honeymoon with Prince William in the Seychelles archipelago also seemed to have been digitally manipulated. Australia's Woman's Day magazine featured the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge walking hand-in-hand along the beach on its July 16 issue cover, but her figure appears deformed.
