'House of Cards' Season 3 Spoilers: Rachel Posner To Be Charged With Doug Stamper's Murder In Next Chapter? [VIDEO]
As filming for season 3 of House of Cards is currently underway, a few spoilers are trickling through. Recently, Beau Willimon, who is the show runner of the Netflix series gave away a sizeable bit of information in a Twitter interaction.
Claire To Assassinate Frank In Season 3 Of House of Cards
According to a report, Willimon revealed that Doug Stamper (Paul Russo) is actually dead and that Rachel Posner (Rachel Brosnahan) will be the prime suspect for his murder. While this could have been inferred from the finale of season 2, a lot of speculation surrounding the death of Stamper gave rise to all kinds of theories about what could happen next. This is the first time, Willimon has explicitly acknowledged the death.
Willimon spoke to the Washington Post, but the publication could get very little out of him on season 3. When asked what Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) might be aiming for after presidency, Willimon cracked an old joke that even Spacey has been using at most interviews when posed with a similar question. "There's always pope, right? But, you know, the problem with pope is there's already a pope named Francis. Francis the First," he said.
Writers Busy Breaking Final Episodes Of Season 3 Being Written In Maryland
But the Netflix series creator did touch upon the story arc of Doug and Rachel. Speaking about Rachel's character he suggested that the way her arc eventually panned out was pleasantly surprising for him and the writers too, as she was initially meant to be shortlived, just a prop in the background.
"Rachel Posner was never intended to be a big character. She was listed as "call girl" in her first two episodes," he said. "But Corey Stoll was doing such a fantastic job as Peter Russo, I wanted to expand his story. As part of that process, the call girl came back into the story, got a name and became a fully-fledged character. And as a result, this very complex dynamic between her and Doug Stamper started to form."
After all that went down in the finale between Rachel and Doug, leaving him severely injured, the question about Doug's future on the show did come up. But Willmon was tight-lipped, simply stating, "There's only one way to find out."
The third season of House of Cards will film in Maryland, where the first and second seasons were also shot. Initially, the continuation of filming of the third season of the Netflix series was fraught with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland. But the issue was finally resolved on April 25.
