50 Shades of Grey Movie, 'Mainstream Pornography' For Women
The 50 Shades of Grey movie cast is in the works with many hot stars considered for roles in the steamy film. However, this erotic book proves that sex sells and readers enjoy a kinky read. Jaclyn Friedman, author of "What You Really Really Want: The Smart Girl's Shame-Free Guide to Sex & Safety," believes that 50 Shades of Grey satisfies female lusts.
"The popularity of '50 Shades' speaks to the fact that the dominant model of mainstream pornography and ideas of sex are targeted at men. The fantasy starts when he's into it and ends when he's done," author said, according to The Denver Channel.
"A lot of women have said that they've learned the most about what sex could be for them from erotica novels," Friedman added. "These stories focus on female desire and what's in it for the woman, and there's not a lot of that in mainstream culture."
50 Shades of Grey was written by British author, E.L James. The book is actually the first installment in a trilogy that is quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling paper back series in recent time. The novel has sold 20 million copies in the US and 31 million world-wide since March.
50 Shades of Grey the movie casting is causing quite a stir since the novel has been a great success. Reports suggest that executives are considering real life couples to take the leads as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
Wet Paint reports that "Magic Mike" star, Channing Tatum would love to take the 50 Shades of Grey male lead role only if his wife, Jenna Dewan, could play the sexy protagonist, Steele.
"I'd only be allowed if my wife was Ana," Tatum said. Steele is the young college student who gets into a raunchy relationship with Grey in the E.L James novel.
"She's read the books so I don't think she'd be impressed if she couldn't be Ana!" Tatum continued.
Also rumored for casting consideration are Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries. Although Somerhalder seems interested in a role in 50 Shades of Grey, he doesn't think the rumors are true.
"I can't imagine Universal doing that, but that would be very interesting," he said at Comic Con 2012.
Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have not addressed whether or not they would consider the movie role. However, when Pattinson was asked by MTV what he would do if the 50 Shades of Grey novel was right in front of him, he comically answered: "I would just sit there and lick the pages."
Although much speculation is occurring, no roles for the sexy read have been confirmed.
