‘Amish Mafia’ Cancelled: Show’s Social Media Accounts Inactive For Months, Sign It Is Not Returning To Discovery for Season 4? [VIDEO]
There's been debate for months on whether or not Discovery's Amish Mafia would shoot and air a fourth season-but inactive social media accounts could be hinting that the show will in fact not return, and was cancelled.
The official Amish Mafia Facebook and Twitter accounts have been inactive since June 13-a rare occurrence for the pages, with the previous longest time in between postings only lasting a few days.
The show has allegedly been on hiatus since February 26, when the cast reportedly refused to allow producers to continue filming them, with the Season 3 finale episode airing April 8. However, the social media accounts had been active since then, often hinting that tensions with the cast had not improved.
'Amish Mafia' Banned From Filming In Lancaster?
"The weather may be warming up, but the Amish Mafia remain chilly..." the account tweeted to its followers April 29.
"The #AmishMafia have turned their backs on the English world. Will this be the last we see of them?" was posted May 6.
"Though they'll no longer talk to us or our camera crews, Esther and Levi have been seen together in Lancaster," was tweeted May 13.
Additional tweets about the cast included ones on May 20, June 3, June 4 and June 10, before the final post on June 13, with a fact about the Amish culture.
However, since then, both the Facebook and Twitter accounts have been inactive-which could either mean the show is coming back secretly and producers want to surprise fans with new episodes by not making an official announcement, or could mean that the show won't be back-and producers have abandoned all traces of it online.
Adding to the speculation that the show may not return, star Esther Schmucker, who also was active on her Facebook account fairly often, has not been on her account since July 5.
Discovery has made no official comments about the status of the show.
