Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) is allegedly dead, leaving Liz (Megan Boone) alone for the first time in two years. The profiler won't play the role of the grieving widow, however, but Liz will need some time to recover from her last toxic relationship.

"I see her as somebody who has just gone through this horrible relationship and betrayal and I would expect her to respond to that in her own life," said series creator Jon Bokenkamp told TV Guide. "Whether that's a rebound or finding somebody else or going off on her own, she's got some soul searching to do. Who is she? She's at a place now where Liz has to confront that."

In the meantime, Spoiler TV has stated that Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) will have more than a little trouble moving past the deaths of Audrey (Emily Tremaine) and Meera (Parminder Nagra). Although this will make him vulnerable, the ways that he deals with his grief may not make him such a hot catch.

"In doing that, [we'll] put him in emotionally vulnerable places," said executive producer John Eisendrath, according to TV Guide. "By putting him in those positions, it will give Liz an opportunity to reach out to him and support him in a way that will deepen their relationship."
