According to a report in The Local last week, the Spanish town of Vilafranca would have been home to Spain's first BDSM (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism and masochism) hotel.
"With the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon in full swing, I saw a business opportunity that hadn't been exploited yet in Spain," the owner (who wanted to remain anonymous) said to the newspaper. The hotel was supposed to open on August 1 and the businessman had rented out Vilafranca's L'Om del Llosar hotel for the new venture.

The businessman said that guests would "be able to enjoy games, flaunt themselves and share experiences with other visitors" in the 20 hotel rooms and four dungeons, three of which are private.
But the town's council isn't too happy with these plans. They said that it's "unsuitable" to "have an establishment of this nature in the village" and so close to the "chapel where dozens of people come every day to visit the village's patron saint."
This news comes on the heels of Fifty Shades of Grey's record-breaking trailer release in July. More than 36.4 million YouTube viewers watched the trailer in its first days, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is set to open in theatres Valentine's Day 2015.
