'Penguins of Madagascar' Movie News: Trailer Outlines Heroes Origins, Wolf 'Classified' Tries To Stop 'Dave' [VIDEO]
Some of the more popular characters from the Madagascar franchise are getting their own spin-off movie and it looks like a new action, spy movie for the penguins.
Penguins of Madagascar picks up the adventures of the four flittered animals as they join up with the North Wind, led by the wolf Classified (Benedict Cumberbatch), to try and stop the villain Dave (John Malkovich) from certain world domination. The four penguins return with Tom McGrath, Peter Stormare, Chris Miller and Christopher Knights doing the voices again.
The trailer shows the origins of the penguins and their spy trade and leads into the plot of the film, which is more heavy in this preview than the other one. It looks like the same humor as the Madagascar movies and Penguins television shows will be there with the penguins pulling off absurd stunts and goofy impressions along the way.
Cumberbatch adds a little class and a Bond-like quality to the cast with Malkovich playing up the hammy villain role as one would expect him to do. The penguins were scene-stealers in the Madagascar movies and giving them their own movie to mess around in looks like it could pay off for Dreamworks with a fun cast around them.
Penguins of Madagascar is directed by Eric Darnell, who directed the Madagascar movies, and Simon J Smith. The script was written by John Aboud, Michael Colton, and Brandon Sawyer. The voice cast also includes appearances by Ken Jeong and Werner Herzog in unnamed roles.
