"I'm a very hands-on person when it comes to my work," Dupri told Billboard in a statement. "I put my all into every project. But when I'm not allowed to do what I do, then I know it's time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future."
Dupri had been Carey's manager since 2013 after she parted ways with former American Idol judge Randy Jackson. Yet, their working relationship began in 1995 when Dupri produced her No. 1 hit Always Be My Baby. He produced several more of Carey's hits including 2005's We Belong Together.

The news comes after Carey's 14th studio album, Me. I Am Mariah ... The Elusive Chanteuse, suffered disappointing sales. The album has only sold 103,000 copies since it was released on May 27, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Carey also experienced her lowest first week sales ever.
Billboard notes that Carey may be looking to unite with Kevin Liles, the former president of Def Jam Recordings and current CEO of KWL Enterprises. The two launched a beverage line with Liles' new brand, Go N'Syde, in June. Sources told the publication that there's "nothing official" yet.
Liles also manages Trey Songz, whose recent album Trigga debuted at No. 1 on Billboard, as well as newcomer Ty Dolla Sign.
