'Harry Potter' Movie News: Warner Bros. May Have Scheduled Two 'Fantastic Beasts' Spinoffs For 2018 & 2020 [VIDEO]
It looks like Warner Bros. is ready to bring the world of Harry Potter back and in a big way.

During Wednesday's schedule reveals, the studio announced dates for November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020 as WB Event Films. According to SlashFilm, it seems like the studio may be looking to expand their upcoming Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, into a trilogy after the initial November 16, 2016 debut.
The spinoff, based off a textbook within the Harry Potter universe, is set to be penned by author J.K. Rowling for her screenwriting debut. No director is currently linked with the project even though Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron was rumored to be interested.
Warner Bros. slipped in an interview with The New York Times in March that the idea for the franchise was to make it into a large-scale trilogy, in the vein of the original Harry Potter movies. SlashFilm believes that the two year gap between 2018 and 2020 would allow for the second and third leg of the trilogy and would make sense, much like The Hobbit trilogy.
While Rowling is the only name attached to the project, it would seem that a director and cast should be coming soon as she was named the screenwriter earlier this year and has had time to craft a screenplay.
It isn't crazy for Warner Bros. to bank on this as another franchise after The Hobbit has been successful working off of people's love for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But the question is if they can corral a crew soon to be able to make the movies so close together.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them opens in theaters on November 16, 2016.
