Season 16 of NBC's Law and Order: SVU is almost here, but there will be some differences between last season and the new one coming up.

According to Carter Matt this week, Season 16 will not having one over-arching story like the William Lewis (Pablo Schreiber) case from last year. Lewis was a professional rapist on the show who had a big impact on Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).
The website said that Law and Order: SVU will be showing a variety of different stories this season. Although, Lewis is gone for good, fans should prepare for another long-term adversary following in the same vein as Lewis (although not with the same storyline).

The Law and Order SVUL writers also revealed on their Twitter account on August 4 that they were back to work. They posted a picture of themselves with the caption, "We're back in! Like the first day of school... What's everyone watching? #SweetSeason16".
Showrunner Warren Leight previously tweeted on July 13 that the premiere, which is supposed to air on September 24, 2014 on NBC, will only be one hour, but will be "packed" for the die-hard viewers. He had also mentioned that star Hargitay hadn't yet signed on to direct an episode yet of Law and Order: SVU, but he was hoping she would this season. Hargitay has directed the show in the past.
