Danity Kane Break Up Again: 'Lemonade' Singers Call it Quits After Dawn Richard Punched Aubrey O'Day [VIDEO]
Danity Kane has split for the second time. The group -- which broke up for the first time in 2009 reunited last year without original member Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgette -- called it quits again after a physical altercation.
Earlier this week TMZ reported that bandmate Dawn Richard violently struck Aubrey O'Day in the head. On Friday, the website released an update stating that O'Day and fellow band member Shannon Bex were having meetings and recording music without informing Richard.
Richard punched O'Day after she reportedly went to the music studio and discovered their private session. Richard also told TMZ that the stories about her are "exaggerated lies and false accusations."
In the meantime, O'Day and Bex revealed the breakup news via a joint statement on the group's Tumblr on Friday. Both ladies also wrote separate statements for their fans.
"Disagreements happen. But a war of words and ideas should never end in physical aggression," O'Day wrote. "It breaks my heart that this violence is followed by no sign of remorse. For the past year, I watched small lies turn into bigger lies. Those bigger lies turned into verbal abuse. Now the verbal abuse has deteriorated into a physical assault."
Bex echoed O'Day's feelings but also added that she "must walk away feeling used and manipulated."
Danity Kane released their comeback single Lemonade in May and that same month member Aundrea Fimbres left the group to start a family.
The group formed in 2005 during the third installment of MTV's Making the Band reality series and quickly experienced mainstream success. Danity Kane released its platinum self-titled debut album in 2006 and its follow-up, Welcome to the Dollhouse, two years later. Both albums went to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 200 chart.
