Showtime's Victorian supernatural drama Penny Dreadful has a haunting score, and now it looks like fans will be able to purchase the soundtrack by the end of this month.

Creator John Logan Could Bring H.G. Wells Characters To 'Penny Dreadful'

On Sunday Horror Talk announced that Showtime will release the drama's eerie soundtrack on August 19 both digitally and on CD.

The music is by Abel Kozeniowski, who also did the score for A Single Man in 2009 starring Colin Firth.

Born in Krakow, Poland, Kozeniowski has garnered much success in the film industry, having received two Golden Globe nominations for his work and three World Soundtrack Awards.

"I started looking for an expression of dark beauty, something that can be terrifying and mesmerizing at the same time," explained the composer in discussing the Penny Dreadful soundtrack, "A poisonous infatuation."

Kozeniowski noted he drew much inspiration from the character of Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and the idea of her being the mother of evil. "Seeing her not as a victim, but as a creature of a complex dual nature, both good and evil," he said, "Was a defining moment for the entire musical score."

Harkening back to the series literary roots, Kozenowski kept a number of things in mind when forming the drama's musical tone. "The musical themes of Penny Dreadful," he noted, "Represent both different characters and abstract ideas."

Miss Ives and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) grace the cover of the soundtrack, with the show's title printed in fine, prominent red letters below them.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
