Hewitt plays the part of Kate, an FBI agent who joins the BAU.

"Kate is smart, charming, and wise for her years," Messer said. "Her background is criminal psychology, and her passion comes from wanting to make the world a safe place. She's had a lot of personal loss that makes her a patriot and a nurturing figure to those in her personal and work families."

It seems like Hewitt's star power will more than compensate for the void left by the exit of Jeanne Tripplehorn's character, Dr. Alex, who was a fixture on the show.

On July 8, Joe Mantegna, who plays David Rossi on Criminal Minds, tweeted about how Hewitt's character was a "perfect addition" to the show.

"At the read through yesterday for our first ep, @TheReal_Jlh fit right in and her character is the perfect addition. @CM_SetReport," he tweeted on July 8.

Hewitt has worked with CBS before, as she starred in Ghost Whisperer. More recently Hewitt featured in two seasons of The Client.

The second and final part of the finale, Demons, aired on Wednesday, May 14 on CBS at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Season 10 will premiere on CBS on October 1.
