'X-Men Apocalypse' Movie News: Michael Fassbender Dishes On New Magneto Story He Wants To Tackle, Will He Be More Good? [VIDEO]
With the revival of the X-Men franchise in First Class, Michael Fassbender's Magneto has been given just as much time and punch as Ian McKellen's from the first films. But it seems like the actor wants to take the character in a new route for the next movie.
Speaking with IGN on Monday, Fassbender talked about a story idea he has been pitching to screenwriter Simon Kinberg as they are hard at work on the X-Men: Apocalypse screenplay.
"Well, I can't really tell you," Fassbender said. "I want it to be in the next one! I've had these conversations with Simon and there's a certain strand of his story that I think is pretty interesting and would like to explore, if we could."
With how big Magneto and Fassbender have become, and the possibility that Xavier could die at some point in Apocalypse, it seems like the actor may want to allow Magneto to run the school, or the X-Men, for a time being.
This isn't completely unprecedented. McKellen showed glimmers of good and even helped the X-Men throughout the plot of Days of Future Past and having this character on the good side allowed for more screen time for McKellen. But Fassbender may be wanting to give the villain a make-over and have him become more like he was at the beginning of First Class, where he was working alongside the heroes.
This would be an interesting route for the fans and having Fassbender do it could work out because of how well he has done with the role since First Class. Days of Future Past showed that he still had some good in him, and going this way in the story would be something new.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters in May 2016.
