At Comic-Con in San Diego last month, the cast of Showtime's Penny Dreadful joked that they were conveniently receiving the scripts for Season 2 after the event took place. They claimed this was to prevent them from accidentally giving out unapproved spoilers.

'Penny Dreadful' Director Takes On New Frankenstein-Themed Project

However, the cast officially received their scripts over the last few weeks and they are more than a little excited about it. "Just read the first episode of Season 2 of @Show_Penny…" tweeted an enthusiastic Reeve Carney last week. "My goodness… Boy, am I excited…!!! :) #johnloganrules!!"

Carney, who plays the iconic Dorian Gray on the John Logan-helmed drama, is certainly enthusiastic about the upcoming episodes.

'Penny Dreadful' Soundtrack Set To Be Released Later This Month

Production was set to begin the beginning of the month as well and so the fact that Carney didn't receive his script until the end of the week suggests that perhaps Dorian will be missing from the first half of the episode, or at the very least his shooting schedule picks up later than that of the other leads.

Dorian remained a relative outsider to Sir Malcolm's (Timothy Dalton) group of misfits during Season 1 and with promise of a new love interest this season, it wouldn't be surprising if Dorian began forging his own path. This new love interest has yet to be revealed and while it is uncertain whether the individual will be male or female, fans should expect to see a character who is completely new to the series.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
