'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Premiere: Tom Could See Change 'From The Inside Out,' He's 'Not As Naive As He Once Was' [VIDEO]
Changes are about to take place when Downton Abbey returns, including Tom Branson who will be a witness to these new occurrences.
Will Lady Mary Be Involved In A New Romance?
On Monday, The Independent posted details from Allen Leech who plays Tom on the series. During a press launch, he mentioned some political challenges that will be taking place and how his character will be a part of it.
"We see the blurring of these lines between the classes, and of course the first socialist government comes into power, which Branson is delighted about," the actor said. "For the first time, Branson has an opportunity to see change from the inside out."
Will Season 5 Take On An Entirely Different Style?
Leech also revealed one of the biggest challenges his character will have to face, which is having to decide "not only where he sits within the class system, but what kind of man he wants to be and what kind of father he wants to be for his daughter."
The site also pointed out that schoolteacher Sarah Bunting will return for the next season, which might cause some to wonder if she'll come back to seduce Tom into being that rebel he once was before. But it looks like that may not happen since Tom is in a different place in his life now.
"He's a changed man through his circumstances," Leech said. "He's not as naive as he once was despite still being strongly politically-minded."
Downton Abbey Season 5 is expected to return to the United States on Sunday, January 4 on PBS
