'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News: Howard the Duck Could Have Substantial Role In Sequel, Return As Part Of Rebuilt Collector [VIDEO]
While he was a kicker at the end of the movie, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy seems to want to bring back Howard the Duck for a more extended role in the sequel.
Mistress Death Could Take Over As The Villain For 'Guardians 2'
Speaking with The Huffington Post, director James Gunn talked about why he loved the cameo. "That's the funniest thing, every time I see it, I can't stop laughing," Gunn said. "The 'Howard the Duck' movie does not exist. That is in an alternate universe from our world."
Later on during Empire's podcast, Gunn elaborated a little more on the cameo and said that he hopes to see the character in a more expanded role in the sequel.
Will 'Guardians 2' Steer Away From The Comics With The Identity Of Star Lord's Dad?
Bringing Howard the Duck back as a short of side-kick to The Collector would be an inspired move. The Collector didn't get too much screen time in the movie and having him also get an expanded role with Howard following him along could add to the oddball humor that worked so well with the first movie.
They could also have Cosmo the dog joining the group to make a whole new intergalactic team.
It also would allow fans of this character to enjoy having him around, but not have a full movie dedicated to him. The extended cameo could erase the memory of the 1987 movie that almost killed off the character from appearing again.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is directed and written by Gunn and set to open in theaters on July 28, 2017.
