During a pre-Emmy event on Saturday, actress Christina Hendricks (Joan) told Variety what it was like to be finished with something that has been such a big part of her life (featured below).

"You know it's our last season," explained Hendricks, "And all I can say is Matt Wiener has been extraordinarily consistent in his excellence and writing and it's a beautiful ending and I'm really proud of it."

Hendricks went on to boast the joy of working on the show for so long, calling the experience "challenging and exciting every step of the way."

Though production has ended, the actress is thankful that the audience hasn't seen the new episodes just yet. "We get to sort of milk it a little longer," she laughed, sobering then to delve into the sense of loss she feels now that Mad Men has officially wrapped.

"It's been very emotional," admitted Hendricks, "And I'm still sort of working through it and having to say goodbye to all those characters."

"After eight years of playing Joan," she added, "I hope I have a little of her strength."

Mad Men returns to AMC with the final episodes of its seventh and final season in early 2015.
