'X-Men: Apocalypse' Movie Plot: Wolverine Will Be Weapon X, Be More In Line With Classic, Traditional Character [VIDEO]
With Hugh Jackman excited about the new direction for the character Wolverine after growing tired of the role recently, it may be time for the actor to go completely new with Logan and re-invent the role into something insane. But could that mean Weapon X will be in the next movie?
In the comics, during the Age of Apocalypse storyline, Weapon X (Wolverine) and his lover Jean Grey are depicted in this series carrying out missions for the Human High Council. Jean and Weapon X drift apart, as the Human High Council intends to launch a nuclear strike on the U.S. as Jean is appalled by the loss of life it would cause.
After Weapon X concludes a battle with Donald Pierce, Jean leaves to help evacuate the U.S., bidding a tearful farewell to Logan. Weapon X is then sent to recruit Gateway, whose teleportation ability is necessary to bring the fleet to America. As the fleet leaves, Weapon X decides to join them, if only to find Jean somewhere in America before the bombs are dropped.
In this reality the events which saw the character's Adamantium ripped out have never occurred, and it is Magneto that helps him to control his feral rages. Most significantly, Weapon X is missing a hand, cut off by Cyclops (who in turn is missing an eye thanks to Weapon X).
The claws on this hand still exist, however, which appear by piercing through the metal stump covering the break.
This would be an interesting new look for Jackman's Wolverine that would allow the actor to tread on new territory while keeping remnants of the old, fan favorite character. It would also allow for a younger version of Jean Grey to be introduced, which has been teased already.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2016.
