They may be known as the on-again-off-again love interests of Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) on MTV's Awkward, but this month actors Beau Mirchoff and Brett Davern team up for a new race car flick.

That's right, "Matty" and "Jake" are trading in high school for the open road in Born to Race: Fast Track.

Davern will be stepping into Joseph Cross's role of Danny Krueger from the 2012 action film Born 2 Race, while Mirchoff plays rival and classmate Jake Kendall. The two are paired together at Fast Lane Racing Academy to compete together for a prime racing position on a professional team.

'Awkward' Headed For Spring Break In New Episodes

Pals on Awkward and friends in real life, Davern and Mirchoff share plenty of heated moments in the new Born to Race trailer (featured below), which highlights a mistrust of one another and a reluctance to work together.

"You guys aren't a team, you're a couple of wrecking balls playing last man standing," warns their instructor.

The film is certainly a divergence from their roles on the MTV series, where Matty is struggling with the possibility of becoming a father and Jake's biggest obstacle is whether or not he and Tamara can actually just be friends.

Directed by Alex Ranarivelo, Born To Race: Fast Track also stars Diego Morgado (The Bible) and Tiffany Dupont (Greek). The film will be released by Anchor Bay Entertainment on DVD September 9.

Awkward returns to MTV for the remainder of the fourth season Tuesday, September 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
