With a "Dark Knight Rises" sequel on many people's minds, Warner Bros. clearly has some serious decisions to make on the superhero movie front. However, there are many directions the Batman Franchise can go in, as the latest installment left many open ends within their characters.

Interestingly enough to note, Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the flick, had interviewed with Crave Online seven months ago and may have quietly spilled the beans about a potential sequel:

"Yeah, yeah. For us I think [The Dark Knight Rises' is] the end. Whether they will make more, my guess is probably. I mean, they don't have [the Harry Potter franchise] anymore. So, there could be a Batman 4 & 5. It may be Chris [Nolan] overseeing it in a productorial position, but for us and for Chris I think that's it. It's a great way to go though. It's a great story. Epic, epic thing it is."

The million dollar question is clearly what amount of time the network should wait before beginning any sort of development. Or better yet, should they even go ahead with a sequel at all? With A-lister actor Christian Bale and talented director Christopher Nolan throwing in their proverbial Batman towels, which way would the franchise go?

Many believe that Warner Bros. should switch over to a Robin franchise in which the hero would then be needed and not just the heroin the city deserves; a last resort line of defense so to speak. Theoretically, Robin would serve Gotham city as a masked vigilante.

The transition to a Robin franchise would indeed be a high risk for the blockbuster studio. Although a Batman refresh is fearfully inevitable and Nolan has set the box office bar insanely high, a Robin sequel could turn out to be a welcomed addition to the Batman universe.

Here's to hoping Christopher Nolan's creative mark on the "Dark Knight" trilogy does not get tarnished!
