'The Originals' Season 2 News: Writers Promise 'Awesome Deleted Scenes' On DVD As Fans Await New Episodes [VIDEO]
The Originals arrived on DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday and writers for The CW show assure fans that the set will come with plenty of extras to hold them over until new episodes arrive later this fall.

'The Originals DVDs are out tomorrow!" declared writer Carina Mackenzie on Twitter Monday evening. "So many awesome deleted scenes. We cried as they fell on the cutting room floor."
The Blu-Ray and DVD combo pack comes with four Blu-ray discs and five DVDs. With all 22 episodes from Season 1, the set is packaged with a rather symbolic cover image. In it Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) sits plotting in a chair with a large portrait of Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Rebecca (Claire Holt), and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in the background.

As for special features, the set certainly has them. There is "The Originals: Origins", which features creator Julie Plec discussing the evolution of the Mikaelson family from supporting characters on The Vampire Diaries to leading figures on their open series. There is also a highlight reel from The Vampire Diaries, as well as an interview with writers from The Originals as they discuss setting the show in New Orleans.
For those wanting a more in depth look at the characters, there are plenty of deleted scenes to fill in the gaps. The commentary for the pilot episode gives additional insight, allowing fans to set themselves up with a ton of new material as the prepare and refresh for the new season.
The Originals returns to The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
