Rehearsals began on Thursday for the second season of Showtime's hit supernatural series Penny Dreadful.

Producer's Photos Reveal New Sets For Season 2 Of 'Penny Dreadful'

"Rehearsing…" boasted director James Hawes on Twitter Thursday. He then added "And shooting one week today. Season two. #PennyDreadful," which means the premiere episode Fresh Hell is officially up and running.

Actor Reeve Carney's (Dorian Gray) visit to the set Wednesday could mean that the star will be featured in the very first episode, possibility even within the first few minutes. Dorian was one of the last main characters introduced in the pilot for the series, followed only by the rather abrupt and violence entry of Caliban (Rory Kinnear) a few episodes in.

Lots Of Snow Coming To 'Penny Dreadful' In New Episodes

Caliban might also be seeing more screen time this season, as the prosthetics department has been hard at work all month.

"#Makeup testing today was a triumph #makeupfx #prosthetics #PennyDreadful…" tweeted Makeup Designer and Key Prosthetic Makeup Artist Sarita Allison on Wednesday. "Some pretty cool #makeups for season 2."

While not all of the makeup will be devoted to Caliban's distinct, haunting guise, his face is the most iconic representation when it comes to the show's use of makeup, which could make Allison a strong Emmy contender for 2015.

Supernatural programming has always struggled during award season, though HBO's Game of Thrones has changed things over the last few years. It will, therefore, be interesting to see how Showtime's literary drama fares amongst the compeitition.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second, longer season in 2015.
