Mahone told Daily Tribune Music on Wednesday that he stuck to certain pop sounds on his EP The Secret to hopefully gain more fans. "I was going for that *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys kind of vibe, because I knew a lot of the older girls like that, and I wanted to get some older fans as well," Mahone said about his sound on what he calls his "side project."
Mahone released The Secret in May and it went immediately to no. 1 on iTunes. "I was putting out [the record] just to get more material out there, basically."

Mahone will record his new record once his summer tour wraps up. "We have awesome songs lined up and a lot of good people I'm working with," he said. Mahone in the past has worked with artists like Pitbull and Flo Rida. Mahone admits he's mainly a pop artist right now, but isn't limiting himself off from trying other styles on his next album.

Mahone's next tour date with openers Fifth Harmony, The Vamps and Shawn Mendes is Tuesday in Cleveland, Ohio.
