'Longmire' Cancellation News: 'Twitter Stampede' Organized To Save Popular Crime Drama, Causes Multiple 'Crashes' On Social Media [VIDEO]
Longmire won't be returning to A&E for a fourth season, but that hasn't stopped fans yet.
A&E Might Have Considered 'Longmire' Audience 'Too Old'
"The Longmire fan base united en masse to send the message loud and clear, that they are not through with Longmire!" read a release sent to Highlight Hollywood on Tuesday. The message was composed by the heads of @longmireposse, the Long Live Longmire Twitter account responsible for organizing the recent slew of support for the cancelled series.
"So many were involved in the social media stampede last night, that many people had Twitter crash…" continued the message. The "stampede" was organized to take place on Monday night during the drama's old timeslot on A&E.
The Cast Of 'Longmire' Keeps Busy With New Projects
The "stampede" was considered to be a notable one, averaging 85,000 tweets per hour at its height. For a time the "Long Live Longmire" hashtag was even trending.
Longmire was officially cancelled by A&E on Aug. 28 in spite of being the networks top rated-scripted series. Many had expected the series to return, particularly after ending with a major cliffhanger.
Cast and fans alike have taken to social media to voice their support for the series, which hopes to find a new home on a different network as soon as possible. Contenders to pick up the program include USA, TNT, Hulu, and even Netflix, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.
If Longmire does return for a fourth season, it will most likely do so during the later half of 2015.
