'American Horror Story' Season 4 Cast: 'Asylum' Standout Pepper Returning For 'Freak Show,' Shows Life Before Briarcliff [VIDEO]
The upcoming fourth season of FX's American Horror Story is about to have a crossover from a previous season for the first time in the show's history.
Good news for fans of American Horror Story: Asylum standout character Pepper (Naomi Grossman): She's back! Pepper is seen in a new first look photo for American Horror Story: Freak Show, released by Entertainment Weekly on Thursday. In the photo, Pepper is seen holding the World's Smallest Woman, Jyoti Amge.
This means that Pepper will be a part of the freak show before she eventually enters the Briarcliff asylum seen in AHS: Asylum. Freak Show takes place in 1952 while Asylum was set in 1964.
"We thought about it long and hard and we decided that it was interesting to do," AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy told EW, regarding the decision to bring back Pepper.
Pepper, diagnosed with microcephaly, is saved by freak show owner Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) in the new season.
"What Elsa has done for 20 years is she goes around to hospitals and jails and rescues these 'freak' circus performers who are going to be shipped away to asylums and she signs the waivers and she becomes their guardians," Murphy explained.
Therefore, Murphy said that this "is sort of like what happened to Pepper before she went to the asylum."
It is not yet clear how many episodes Pepper will be in.
American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to debut Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
