'The Amazing Spider-Man 3' News: Andrew Garfield Could Be Recast After Last Appearance In 'Sinister Six,' Go On To More Pedigree Work [VIDEO]
With the expansion of the Spider-Man franchise as a cinematic universe much in the vein of Marvel and the upcoming DC, Sony is ready to have the web slinger in theaters just about every year. But will the current Peter Parker be there to fight in the movies, or will someone else take over the role?
'Amazing Spider-Man' Star Talks Script Changes in Second Film
Cinema Blend posed six solutions to the Spider-Man franchise on Thursday heading into the third movie and had one potentially crazy idea: recast Peter Parker. The role is currently played by Andrew Garfield.
The site said that it wasn't that Garfield was bad, but his talent was being wasted and caged by this expanding universe that he didn't ask for when he signed up. They added that Garfield may have shown us all that he's going to show us in the Spider-Man suit. Some would say that the character needs to move away from the melodramatic fare that has bolstered - or, some would argue, weighed down - the Webb Spidey-verse.
This is a question that has been posed lately with the emergence of Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man in the comics. While Garfield has done good work, he is being trapped in an expanding universe of movies that he may not want to be apart of. He is still relatively young and probably wants to spread his wings with other roles and not be stuck as Spider-Man.
This would also allow a new hero to join the ranks and possibly be apart of the wave of new spinoffs that are on the way with different villains.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set to open in theaters in 2018.
