'Iron Man 4' Movie: Robert Downey Jr. Set For Announcement, Could Be Seeing His Retirement As Character Following 'Avengers 3' [VIDEO]
It is well documented that Robert Downey Jr. is only set for two more Avengers movies without another Iron Man movie planned. But could the actor be heading towards a retirement of the role instead of more, smaller appearances?
Is This The Franchise Robert Downey Jr. Is Ditching 'Iron Man' For?
The Marvel superstar took to Twitter on Tuesday and hinted that a big announcement could be coming soon from the actor, but what could that mean?
MoviePilot speculated on a few options including the actor directing a Marvel movie, another hero being revealed, Iron Man 4 actually being made, or even the most logical one, an Avengers 2 trailer.

But one option could be what he is headed towards. As the site points out, the actor is wearing the shirt he wore during the first Avengers movie, and therefore, Downey Jr. could be announcing his retirement from role of Iron Man.
It would make sense because the actor has been there since the beginning, has a large workload whenever he does a movie, and is getting older so he may want to move on from the role that put him back on the map.
It wouldn't be the worst scenario for Marvel as after Avengers 3. They could be without Chris Evans as Captain America with another actor filling in the role so who says Iron Man can't be re-filled as well.
They could always go with an in-house option and try Don Cheadle as Iron Man for awhile, but if they wanted new blood, they could wait and re-boot the series after awhile with a younger face.
Tony Stark will be seen next in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.
