‘Magic Mike 2’ Casting News: Amber Heard, Jada Pinkett Smith & More Women Sign On To Sequel Film—Replacing Matthew McConaughey, Cody Horn & Others? [VIDEO]
It's been teased for some time now that the Magic Mike sequel film would be extremely different from the original-and it appears those teases can now be confirmed as actual facts, considering the cast is getting a much stronger female presence.
Matthew McConaughey Officially NOT Returning For 'Magic Mike 2'
Fresh off the heels of original film stars Cody Horn and Matthew McConaughey confirming that they wouldn't be back for the new film, a bevy of women have since been confirmed (and/or rumored) to be signing onto the sequel-including Johnny Depp's fiancée, Amber Heard.
Heard's rep confirmed to Just Jared Sept. 19 that she has signed on to the film in one of the leading roles, though it is unclear if the lead female role will be a new romantic interest in the film, or if she will portray a female stripper.
Cody Horn Also Not Returning For 'Magic Mike' Sequel
If she is being cast in the role of a love interest, she will be replacing Horn, who portrayed Brooke in the 2012 hit. Horn confirmed she wouldn't be back while attending the Estee Lauder Modern Muse Event earlier in September.
"I'm not in it. The story to the sequel was kind of always around, and there's no room for a girlfriend in that," she said. "Of course I'm bummed, but we spent a lot of time talking about it, and I completely agree that it does not make sense to have Brooke in this movie."
Meanwhile, rumors have also been circulating that Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith could also be very close to signing a deal to appear in the film-as a strip club owner, in a role that was initially supposed to be portrayed by a man-sparking rumors she is replacing McConaughey's character of Dallas.
Also signed on to the film is Andie MacDowell, though details about her role in the film have not been revealed.
Magic Mike: XXL opens in theaters July 1, 2015.
