Logan Tom, Destinee Hooker Lead U.S. Volleyball Team Win Over South Korea
Team USA's Women's Volleyball team defeated South Korea today, led by Logan Tom. The U.S. team showed their skills as they knocked South Korea in four sets in pool play. The results are as follows: 5-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21. Tom scored nine points in today's match, including eight spikes.
Also shining at the match today was Destinee Hooker. The 24-year old gained 21 points and at one point had the crowd cheering her name on.
After tonight's victory, the U.S. team will be gearing for their Monday match against Brazil, the team they lost the Olympic gold medal to in Beijing 2008.
This is the fourth time that Logan Tom has competed in the Olympics. She made her Olympic debut at the age of 19 at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She led Team USA to a silver medal in 2008 and was named "Best Scorer".
Tom attended Highland High School where she was reportedly a stellar student.
Day 1 of the London Olympics also saw Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps to gold in the 400-meter individual medley race for the Men's Swimming. Phelps, who had previously won 2 gold medals in this event, came in fourth.
