Venom not only is Spider-Man's superhero rival, but also doubles as the rival for Peter Parker as well. But according to the director of the new spinoff movie, there may be some changes to the persona of the super villain that will open up a different take on the character.

Venom Could Be Teased During 'Amazing Spider-Man 3'

Speaking with Comic Book Resource on Tuesday, Venom director Alex Kurtzman talked about who would be the main character and why changing it would create a different experience with the character.

"I would not say it's an easy choice. I would say that there are quite a few things about Venom that are interesting," Kurtzman said.

"Venom had several different iterations, and there are several things that are very unique, interesting and specific. And so I think we all want to make sure that we're making the right choices for a character that's so beloved."

This wouldn't be world ending change as Marvel is doing the same thing with Ant-Man and has Scott Lang donning the suit rather than the usual Hank Pym, who will be acting as a mentor. So not having Eddie Brock be Venom wouldn't be the end of the world, like Kurtzman said.

MTV speculated on Wednesday on who could be the foe instead with one Oscorp employee's name surfacing: Mac Gargan.

Gargan is actually Scorpion in the comics, but the site points out that the Venom symbiote took over Scorpion after abandoning the cancer-stricken Eddie Brock, and when combined, the two caused a lot of trouble with the help of Norman Osborn's Sinister Twelve and Dark Avengers.

They added that the problem with a Venom movie featuring Gargan is that his story is too tied into a complex mythology to be compelling on its own.

Other possibilities were Flash Thompson, who has already appeared in the universe and could easily be brought back in.
