‘Amazing Race’ Season 25 Spoilers: Food Scientists Amy & Maya Say They Are Going To ‘Take It In Stride’ And ‘Enjoy The Ride’ In Quest For $1 Million [VIDEO]
While most teams who decide to embark on The Amazing Race like to take on new challenges, season 25 teammates Amy DeJong and Maya Warren also want to show viewers that scientists can still be cool as well.

"Typically scientists are portrayed as these awkward, nerdy people that live in the lab and don't talk to people," DeJong said in a pre-race interview with CBS. "In reality, scientists are so much more than that, so part of this is showing people that we can have personalities, we can do things and it's okay for young women to get involved in science."
And while they hope showing that women can be scientists will be a good image for other women and girls, they also hope that they'll be able to challenge themselves in a way they never have before.

"We want to be on The Amazing Race because we're basically reaching the highest accolade in our field already, we're both getting our PHDs," Warren said. "So this is a challenge outside of the lab, outside of the scope of science, and we'll challenge ourselves in a way we haven't before."
The two also believe that they'll work well together as a team because they know how to balance one another out-and can handle pressure thanks to the work they've put in towards their degrees.
"Staying cool under pressure...that's something that we've been able to do getting out degrees," Warren said. "It's something that we sort of pride ourselves on, especially being able to troubleshoot and not getting flustered, not giving up."
However, despite thinking they'll be able to use their skills from the lab and apply them to their quest for $1 million, the two do concede that just having the opportunity to be on the show and doing the race is huge enough for them.
"You know, basically I just want to take it in stride and enjoy the ride," Warren said. "This is a really amazing opportunity that we've been blessed with, so might as well take it for what it is."
The Amazing Race season 25 premieres Friday, September 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
