‘The Amazing Race’ Season 25 Spoilers: Firefighters Michael & Scott Say ‘Second Place Is First Loser’ & They Intend To Win For The Veterans [VIDEO]
It wouldn't be the first time a team announces their intentions to win the final prize of $1 million on The Amazing Race, but one of season 25's new teams is saying that second place simply isn't an option for them.
Tim & Te Jay Will Bring 'Sass, Charm & Attitude' To 'The Amazing Race'
"We came here to win, not for a ribbon," Boston Firefighter Michael Ward said in a pre-race interview with CBS. "We're going to hold that gold medal and let them play the National Anthem for us, because that's what we're going to hear. We're going to be in the middle podium for that one."
He and fellow firefighter Scott Strazzullo aren't opposed to making friends on the race-but they know that when it comes time to cross the final finish line, the only place that matters to them is first.

"It's not our first rodeo. I'm pretty good and Mike's pretty good at reading people and their decisions and why they're making the moves that they're making," Strazzullo said. "We'll make alliances, we'll come here and make friends, we're not against that. But we all know in the end there's one person that should be standing on the mat, and second place is first loser. This isn't everyone gets an award. We want to win."
As focused as they are on making sure they can win the race, the two know that they'll be able to work well as a team-meaning they could be a viable threat to their competitors.
"He's like a brother to me, I know that he has my back, that's the firefighter creed and that's an important thing," Strazzullo said. "But on the same side, we have differences like anybody, but we're the type of people, we don't need a name on the back of our shirt. We're part of a team."
And even though the two are extremely focused on winning, they won't be keeping their money if they cross the finish line first-and have big plans for where it will go.
"When we win, we intend on helping out some veterans organizations," Ward said. "Men and women who haven't come back the way they left this country, and their sacrifices are sometimes forgotten because we're able to laugh and joke in a beautiful park."
The Amazing Race season 25 premieres Friday, September 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
