Dark Knight Rises: Three Issues That Struck The Film, Including David Letterman Spoiler [Video, Details]
As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. The "Dark Knight Rises" has been a film that has struck controversy. Not only from the Colorado shooting, but on a smaller scale as well, from comic fans, political types and general movie goers, to name a few.
However, the following controversies seemed to have struck cinematic chords louder than all the others during the filmmaking process:
The voice of villain Bane during the Batman flick's airplane sequence seemed to be an issue for many viewers, as it was reported by many to have been almost inaudible. During the loud scene, fans had stated that it wasn't feasible to hear the accented Tom Hardy over the punctured jet. Although the discrepancy hasn't been mentioned as of late, it was a big concern during the pre-release period. Most of the entertainment press was even headlining it. However, director guru Christopher Nolan had a track record of being artsy and stuck to his ways regardless. Nolan denied any such problem and claimed he wasn't fixing it. Amazingly, once the movie was launched, the complaints seemed to seize.
From the moment actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was given a role in the franchise, buzz began to circulate that he would be cast as Robin (Dick Grayson). However, it was a pretty moot point, as the Dick Grayson character never appeared to be an option for Nolan. After all was said and done, the John Blake character was the director's choice for the actor.
Believe it or not, late night host David Letterman managed to get himself involved in the controversy as well, according to Comic Book.
The talk show fixture did the unthinkable, by messing with fan's emotions by teasing the film's ending.
"It's not essential to see all previous installations of Batman, and I think this is it, and in the end Batman is dead," the late night host said before adding, "He's not dead. He ain't dead, just relax, will you?"
Several people had a good chuckle, but there were a handful of fans who were really annoyed that he did that.
All in all, "Dark Knight" has been and most likely will be known as a film for the ages. As with any other blockbuster, it will face its share of controversy. Although the film is a masterpiece, it will not please everyone; nor will any movie ever made!
