According to Yahoo on Thursday, Harris, who is California's attorney general, is on President Barack Obama's list along with Donald Verrilli Jr., the current U.S. solicitor general and Sheldon Whitehouse, a two-term Democratic senator from Rhode Island.

According to the website, Harris may have other political aspirations including running for U.S. Senate or maybe even governor of California.

The Huffington Post also reported that Harris said she's not interested in Holder's job. "I am honored to even be mentioned, but intend to continue my work for the people of California as Attorney General," Harris said in a Thursday statement. "I am focused on key public safety issues including transnational gangs, truancy and recidivism."

She is also up for reelection as California's attorney general this year. She was first elected in 2010 for the job after serving as San Francisco District Attorney.

Holder announced Thursday he was stepping down from his office. President Obama called the announcement "bittersweet." Holder said he would stay in office until the President has a replacement.

"I have loved the Department of Justice ever since, as a young boy," he said according to The Washington Post, "I watched Robert Kennedy prove during the civil rights movement how the department can - and must - always be a force for that which is right."
