After being discovered by the "world up there," Eggs has trouble adjusting to the civilized world, but manages to save himself - along with his adopted family - with the help of a feisty redhead named Winifred.
The film, which will delight fans in the 8-14 age group, has so far been a hit across the pond, bringing in an estimated $5 million. The film's stars recently opened up about playing "the bad guys" in the stunning stop-motion film and how the appearances of some might be a little deceiving.

Kingsley, who plays exterminator Archibald Snatcher, says that he has no problem playing an evil villain on the big screen, as long as he says "the script is just right."
In an exclusive interview with Enstars, the Oscar-winning actor said, "What's wrong with being bad? When I look at a script and see that it has the right depth, I'm on board. There's nothing wrong with being bad. You don't always have to be good to do good."
Kinglsey also explained that playing an animated character was a good break from the genres he is used to playing. "I don't want to be seen as just a serious actor," the British actor said. "I don't want to be someone who shuts myself in a corner. The myth of being a 'serious actor' is nonsense."
Fanning added that her character, who is the daughter of the richest man in the neighborhood, might appear to be a mischievous troublemaker, but inside, she's anything but.
"She's feisty and she's a little different from the other girls in her neighborhood," Fanning said. "But she does care about the world around her and she does everything for her father to notice her."
With Eggs by her side, Fanning added, "Winnie just wants to get attention from anyone, especially her father. That's her goal. I think kids like attention. Winnie's an extreme example, definitely exaggerated. But at the end of the day, she wants to do good, even though her appearance might tell a different story otherwise."
The Boxtrolls, which was co-directed by Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi, opens in theaters nationwide today.
