Things are getting intense over on the set of Penny Dreadful, with director James Hawes boasting some intense action scenes for the Showtime series.

A Shadowy Figure Will Be 'Lurking' On 'Penny Dreadful' This Season

The director posted the news on Twitter Sunday, insisting that a lot would be required to keep him focused.

'Penny Dreadful' Season 2 Premiere Spoilers

Hawes announced on Friday that they'd be shooting some underground scenes over the next three days, but with those shoots seemingly completed it's likely the "action" will take place outside, or at least on a closed set.

Season 1 was certainly not short on violence, though most of it was confined to the early and later episodes. In the pilot, Miss Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) hired the charismatic sharpshooter Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) for some "night work" which resulted in the slaughtering of vampyric creatures late into the night.

During the program's season finale, Miss Ives found herself in grave danger as she and Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) were forced to face and ultimately kill their beloved Mina.

With production for the season two premiere currently underway, it's likely that this new season will be following in those footsteps.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second, longer season in 2015.
