Lea Salonga: Princess Jasmine Sings ‘A Whole New World’ 22 Years After ‘Aladdin’ WATCH Viral Video Of Her & Il Divo
It's been 22 years since she sang a beautiful rendition of the hit song A Whole New World with Brad Kane in Disney's Aladdin, but a new viral video shows that Lea Salonga's voice still sounds as beautiful as ever.
The actress and singer, now 43, has been performing with singing group Il Divo as a part of her European Tour, which kicked off in September, and the interest in the tour has caused a video of her singing the classic song from the animated film that was initially posted online in April, to go viral.
The video features Salonga with her hair tied back and wearing a beautiful black gown, as she stands between Sebastien Izambard, Carlos Marin, David Miller and Urs Buhler. The men take turns serenading her with Kane's original part, before Salonga then reprises her verses as Jasmine, sounding as beautiful as she did when the song first helped propel the film into Disney lovers' hearts forever, even winning an Oscar in 1993.
The video, and Salonga's singing voice, have earned high praise, with many saying she sounds "just as lovely" as she did in 1992.
The movie, which has since been adapted into a smash Broadway stage show, told the story of Princess Jasmine, a fiercely independent woman with no intentions to marry until she meets "Prince Ali"-who is really a street urchin named Aladdin (Kane sung the part, though the acting scenes were voiced by Scott Weinger). Though Aladdin is proven to be a liar who has used the influence of a powerful genie, the two still managed to fall in love. A Whole New World was the song which captured the moment the two realized they wanted to be together.
