As FX's Sons of Anarchy moves closer to its series finale, the motorcycle drama will be exploring Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and his mourning process after the death of Tara (Maggie Siff).

Jax has been all about revenge on the Chinese ever since getting the (incorrect) tipoff that they were involved in the death of his wife. As this final season moves forward, the "psychology" of Jax will be examined, according to Hunnam in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"He's a soulful guy, and he's a real thinker, and I don't think he's giving himself the opportunity to really mourn Tara's loss in a way that's significant," Hunnam explained. "Killing innocent Chinese men or guilty Chinese men or anyone is not gonna be the answer. We're getting into that place now where there's much more of an honest kind of reflection and exploration of what he's doing, and who he is, and how this means manifested or was catalyzed by him seeing the perpetuation of this cycle in his children."

He added that the final season proceeds to hold the mirror up to Jax in Tara's absence-with [his] children. That has been really, really lovely, satisfying stuff to play towards the end of the season."

While the show is known for killing off its many characters, Hunnam said that he hopes that SAMCRO will remain in tact through the end of the series. However, he added that he does not yet know if this will be the case by the series finale.

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
