Johnson wrote the Longmire books on which the program was based and the latest in that series, Wait for Signs, is soon to be released by Penguin.

On Saturday Johnson offered fans on Twitter a chance to read early pages from the book, which is all fans have for the time being as they eagerly await news of the show's return on a different network.

The "Longmire Posse" was just as eager to promote Johnson's new book as they've been to keep the spirit of the axed A&E drama alive. The author recognized this dedication and was certainly thankful for the commitment, voicing his gratitude on Twitter Sunday.

Wait for Signs is set to be released on Oct. 21, 2014.

Producers are currently searching for a new network to pick up Longmire for a fourth season. If they are successful, then the crime drama will likely return with new episodes sometime during the second half of 2015.
