Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview dated October 6, Guggenheim addressed how the main villain of the next chapter will play into things.
"Well-known DC villain Ra's al Ghul becomes a looming presence starting in at least episode four, though Guggenheim remained mum on just how impactful his impending arrival would be," he said. "With Ra's' return comes the reappearance of his daughter, Nyssa, who Guggenheim confirmed does appear in the fourth episode."

On September 4, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Nable had been cast in the meaty role of Ghul. The villain will make his appearance in the fourth episode of the season, titled The Magician, which is also going to be the show's landmark 50th. The Australian actor is best known for his work on Riddick.
A new promo for the season 3 premiere, entitled The Calm was recently revealed and it featured the show's first villain, the new Count Vertigo, played by Peter Stormare.
In the clip, Stormare's character introduces himself to Oliver telling him that he could call him Vertigo. Before Oliver has time to react, the Count injects him with a drug. He goes on to reveal his demonic plot to do away with Oliver.
"Some things never die, you for example," he says. "It's frustrating. Just means I have to try a little bit harder."
The clip suggests that the new Vertigo has a more potent poison which would make for Oliver's "greatest fear."
Oliver unsuccesfully tries to bring the Arrow out to fight the Count. Toward the end of the clip, somebody emerges to rescue him.
Season 3 premieres on October 8 on The CW.
