'Star Wars' Spin-Off Rumors: Obi-Wan Kenobi Could Be Head Of New Trilogy, Would Dive Into Stories After Episodes 1-3, Include Liam Neeson [VIDEO]
With JJ Abrams hard at work with the first leg of what will be a new cinematic universe of movies with Star Wars, it seems like Disney is hard at work with another trilogy that will bring back a fan favorite character and dive into some of the more recent stories in the saga.
Could A Former 'Star Wars' Actor Return To The Franchise With A Spin-Off?
Cinelinx reported a rumor on Monday that Disney and Lucasfilm are developing a trilogy centered around Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi, which would follow the Jedi Master after the events of Revenge of the Sith and include some moments during the Clone Wars animated series.
The site added that the trilogy wouldn't necessarily follow one set story line, but could follow three separate stories in his timeline. This could include the return of Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn and feature some characters from the Clone Wars series while diving into what happened to Obi-Wan between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

McGregor has already voiced that he would happily return to the role if given the chance and it would make sense to pursue this. Kenobi is one of the most beloved characters from the series and McGregor was a fan favorite for his work in the prequel trilogy.
Also, the Clone Wars series, which is now canon, has a strong following and diving into that pool and bringing in some of the characters that the series introduced would be a fun way to expand the universe.
With directors Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank set to helm spin-offs, it is unclear which one would be doing the Obi-Wan movie and if they would do all three, as both directors have franchises of their own to work on outside of Star Wars.
