The CW released a second clip for episode two "Alive and Kicking" of The Originals this season, which showed that a more emotional side to the noble Elijah (Daniel Gillies) than fans are accustomed to seeing.
Elijah Makes Marcel An 'Offer' In Upcoming Scene From 'The Originals'
Locked away inside their New Orleans compound, Elijah tried to convince his brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan) that they needed to do more for Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), who's new status as a hybrid as her spinning out of control.
"Hayley is one of us now," explained Klaus calmly in the clip (featured below). "Being a vampire only exaggerates what you truly are and wolves are wild things."
Nina Dobrev's Debut On 'The Originals' Is 'Shocking' & 'Grim'
Elijah is no stranger to the championing of lost causes, but it seems that is affection for Hayley has brought out a much more desperate side of him. He wanted Klaus to help her and he does not see it happening.
"I am helping!" warned Klaus defensively "A little less criticism from you and Hayley will be just fine."
At this Elijah lost control for what appeared to be the first time on the series. "The mother of your child deserves much better than just fine!" he shouted, at which point the clip ended on a rather tense note.
Elijah and Klaus have fallen for the same girl before, as will be evident when Tatia (Nina Dobrev) debuts this season in episode five, but their relationship with Hayley is different. Elijah is in love with the vulnerable, pregnant Hayley he knew in season one. Klaus, on the other hand, is not romantically interested in the mother of his child. He does know what she is going through as a hybrid though, which could give him a slight advantage in getting through to her.
The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
