Mark Ballas was not happy with his and Bethany Mota's low scores during Monday night's episode of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, thinking the judges were too harsh all around.

Monday night was the Switch Up night for Dancing With the Stars, with the remaining celebrities switching their pro partners. Mota was assigned Ballas and they performed a Hip Hop routine that received a score of 32 out of 40 from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough, Bruno Tonioli and guest judge Jessie J.

Ballas wrote in his HollywoodLife column that he was "bummed" about the score they received.

"I felt like she could have gotten a couple of 9's, and I took it to heart afterwards because we worked so hard on getting a little more 'oomph' out of her in her performance," Ballas wrote. "Even the judges said she had improved on that, but she still got the same score as the week before. I was being a little hard on myself backstage, but as the night went on, it seemed like the scoring got increasingly worse."

Ballas went on to discuss "the vibe" backstage during the episode being down overall. He noted that the celebrities are not yet professional dancers but they are just "doing the best that they can" for the judges and America.

"The judges were throwing up 5's and giving some tough criticism. I know it's their opinion and it's professional and they want to be constructive, but I felt that it was just a little too harsh," he admitted.

Next week, Ballas is returning to his regular celebrity partner, Sadie Robertson. Of all the celebrities, Robertson was the one who flourished most with her Switch Up partner, Derek Hough, receiving the night's highest score at 36 out of 40. It remains to be seen if she will continue her upward trajectory now that she's back with Ballas.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
