The Walking Dead gave fans some more shockers Sunday night when it was revealed that (spoiler alert) the Terminans are the cannibalistic group called The Hunters from the comic book series. Andrew J. West, who plays Gareth on the show, admitted he was "shocked" about the turn of events.

Gareth ended up eating Bob's (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) leg on the show in a shocking move for viewers. "I'm flipping through [the script], and... all of a sudden, I get to the second or third to last page and I see that monologue, and I was just smiling from ear to ear," West told TV Guide on Sunday.

"I was so thrilled to get to bring that section of the comic book to life because the panels and the imagery and the language are striking," he continued. "It's striking when you read the book, and I think they nailed it in the episode."

Carol Will Be Affected By The Past When 'The Walking Dead' Returns

West's character Gareth is based on Chris from the Walking Dead comic book series. West explained that being a cannibal was a choice for his polarizing character. "Gareth is a guy who has made up his mind about the way in which to approach this new world... He's made up his mind based on what has happened to him in the past. So, I think it's the logical conclusion for him."

One person that Gareth seems to be "leery" about is main character Rick (Andrew Lincoln). "Gareth knew immediately that he was confronted with a really strong individual who is [also] capable of surviving," West said. "Gareth is a smart guy, and I think he knew that he had to be very careful with Rick from the beginning." Despite this, West that Gareth is very confident and thinks he can prevail over Rick.

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 pm E.T. on AMC.
