She has found critical success with her new CW show Jane the Virgin, but star Gina Rodriguez is still being forced to answer questions about why she previously turned down a role on Lifetime's Devious Maids.

Susan Lucci Says Trouble Will Be 'So Much Fun' On Season 3 Of 'Devious Maids'

The 29-year-old actress appeared on Access Hollywood recently to finally clear up all of the rumors surrounding her decision to not test for a role on the popular series, which is preparing to air a third season on the cable channel in 2015.

"Everybody always wants to ask me about Devious Maids because it's the only other show that has a bunch of Latinas on it now besides Cristela," she said. "You know, during the time, I had just gotten off Sundance and I wasn't sure about what I wanted to do with my art and they had presented me with the option of testing for the role, and it wasn't my journey. And it just wasn't my path."

"...When I was presented with the projects and I read the script and I had to decide what I wanted to do with my career...you know its choice, I think we as actors, you're always told, 'You've got to take it, you never know when it's going to happen, you've got to take it,'" she continued. "But I don't believe that. I don't believe that it has to happen tomorrow. You know, I've been at it or a while and I will be at it for the rest of my life because I gave myself a lifetime. But for me, I thought about if this show is a success, will I regret my decision? ...so when I knew that I was not going to regret it if I knew it was a success, I knew I was doing the right thing."

Rodriguez passing on a role on the show became a major story back in August, when she did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where she appeared to diss the program for not portraying Latinas in a positive light.

"It was about my journey and the stories that I wanted to tell and the change I wanted to create," she said at the time. "Television and film are fictional reality to reflect our daily reality. I didn't connect to Devious Maids. I didn't want that to be my coming-out. I also passed on this hip-hop film-I can't remember what it was called but it hasn't come out-because it was really negative in the sense that it portrayed Latinos in a real negative light, and they were throwing a huge chunk of change my way, and I just couldn't do it."

Rodriguez can be seen on The CW's Jane The Virgin Mondays at 9 p.m. Devious Maids is set to return to Lifetime in 2015.
