Fox's Gotham has found its Leslie Thompkins in the form of a recent Emmy-nominated actress.

Is Gotham Set In The Past, The Present, The Future Or All Three?

Former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin has signed on to play Leslie Thompkins in Gotham, according to a new Deadline report. The actress will begin her recurring arc in early 2015 and is set to become a regular for the (presumed) second season.

Dr. Thompkins is a character from the DC Comics who is a friend to Thomas and Martha Wayne, Bruce's parents. She is a physician who want to help Gotham City and begins work for Arkham Asylum's Home for the Criminal Insane. She reportedly "finds herself drawn close" to James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in the series. She also has a remarkable coolness under pressure, according to the Deadline report.

Baccarin was nominated for a Drama Supporting Actress Emmy in 2013 for her role as frustrated wife Jessica Brody in the second season of Homeland. She has since left the show due to the Brody arc now being over.

The casting of Baccarin is also significant considering the actress rose to prominence on another cult classic Fox show, Firefly. While the short-lived space western series only lasted one season, Baccarin left her mark on the series as Inara Serra, a courtesan who helped Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and company on various adventures.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
