As the future of Transformers 5 lies uncertain after Michael Bay walked out and there has been no news of the cast reprising their roles from Age of Extinction, the plot of the movie could also take a detour.
Michael Bay Suggests "Sweeping Changes" For Plot Of Transformers 5?
During the making of Age of Extinction the movie was being pitted as launching a new phase in the Transformers series, with two sequels to follow, making it a trilogy. It was also rumored that Mark Wahlberg, who played Cade Yaeger, in Age of Extinction, would be the new face of the franchise and carry through the two sequels. But now that Bay has pulled out, and there has been silence from Wahlberg about his involvement in the sequel, since Age of Extinction was revealed, it seems like the nature of Transformers 5 might be completely upended.
Another reason that the producers might consider going a completey different route with Transformers 5, would be to sever any association with Age of Extinction. Reason being, that the recently released movie has been heavily panned by a lot of critics and fans, probably making it one of the worse movies in the series so far. Sans Bay, maybe the producers of the film would want to give it a new sense. Some reports are also suggesting that it could be a reboot.
Optimus Prime To Not Feature In Transformers 5?
The rumors of a reboot have been spurred by other rumors of Megan Fox and Shia LeBeouf making a comeback.
On September 1, MoviePilot reported that while Fox has expressed interest in returning, she might be in a bit of bind because of her commitment to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Recently, Fox who had been very critical of Bay right after the first phase of the Transformers franchise that she had starred in, buried the hatchet and said she would love to work with the director again. It seems like the two are best pals again and he was instrumental in getting her a part in the reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Speaking to E!News in an interview dated August 4, the actress revealed that she would be interested in coming back on board if she was asked.
"If [Bay] ever wanted me to do a cameo like assembling an autobot motorcycle in a bike shop or something like that, I would totally do it," Fox said.
Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
