Sons of Anarchy showrunner Kurt Sutter is back and ready to continue directing the final episode of the FX series after an emergency operation.

Sutter is back in the SOA director's chair on Wednesday after having his appendix removed. The showrunner and director posted a relatively graphic photo on Instagram of his appendix on Monday, captioning, "So apparently this need to come out."

He then posted another photo on Instagram Wednesday saying "I'm back. Day 9," indicating that he was healthy and prepared to continue directing the show's series finale.

In his place, executive producer and director Paris Barclay stepped in on Monday and Tuesday to direct part of the series finale.

"Thanks for all the love and well wishes. Appendix ejected. Back in director's chair Wednesday. Thanks @Harperbar for having my back," Sutter tweeted late Monday.

Barclay tweeted back, "that's my job and I do it w/LOVE!"

Sons of Anarchy is expected to wrap production on Thursday, according to a new report by Deadline.

SOA is winding down with only five episodes left to air on FX. The final episode titles for the series are quite epic in nature. Next week there is What a Piece of Work Is Man, followed by Episode 10, which is titled Faith and Despondency, Episode 11, titled Suits of Woe and Episode 12, Red Rose. The series finale does not have a title announced yet.

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
