'House of Cards' News: Kevin Spacey Dishes On The Economics Behind The Netflix Series [VIDEO]
At a conference hosted by IBM in Las Vegas, Kevin Spacey, who plays Frank Underwood on House of Cards, spoke about the economics behind the Netflix show, and how the risk more than paid off.
Spacey's talk focussed on how Netflix was surrounded by naysayers who believed the show was a bad business decision and it would take forever for the provider of online-streaming media to recover its money invested in the show and start making any profits. Business Insider reported from the event, as Spacey ripped through the cynics.
""[They said] we'd never make that money back," Spacey said. According to calculations the company would need 565,000 more members to break even, but in fact it has added about 17 million new member.

Spacey also shed some light on the bespoke advertising for the show that the nature of streaming media allowed them, as Netflix can tap into the viewer's taste and tailor the teaser trailer of House of Cards for that particular viewer accordingly.
Filming for the third season of House of Cards is currently underway in Maryland, where the first and second seasons were also shot. Initially, the continuation of filming of the third season of the Netflix series was fraught with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland. But the issue was finally resolved on April 25.
